H is for Holland

A month late and a few euros short (well, more than a few euros short), I'm finally getting around to posting some photos from our trip to Amsterdam. First let me just say, the city is absolutely breathtaking and honestly, the Dutch are quite possibly the coolest, nicest people ever. Amsterdam had been on our top 10 cities to see before we leave Europe, and this summer we finally conquered it.

While we spent a few days in the city of Amsterdam, we also took two day trips. One over to Leiden, a small town about 30 minutes away, and the other over to Utrecht about an hour or so away.

I'd love to say that I had planned for months on which day trips to take, searched far and wide through every travel book and expert recommendations, but the truth is, I closed my eyes and pointed to a map. We definitely weren't disappointed, and I really don't think you can be in Holland. Everywhere you look, it's like right out of a painting.

But, getting back to Amsterdam. We spent about 3 1/2 days in the city and of course did a good majority of the touristy things like, visit the Anne Frank Huis (in my opinion, very worth it), hang out at the Heineken Experience (not really worth it) and ate frites, drank koffee and well, drank more koffee but there was still so much left to see.

Beautiful canals, and weather

When in Holland...

Everyone needs a windmill in their life

Us in Utrecht

In my true nature, I took way too many photos but decided to just post a few favorites and a slide show of the rest. I'm not sure when we'll be able to go back to this city, but it's definitely staying on my favorites list.

Yay! I'm glad you came to Utrecht! I love my adopted little city! It's small, but it's great for wandering around and always finding something new and interesting to see. Even this morning I discovered some architectural gems while taking the dog for a walk.
