Where in the world...

Hi! Remember us!? Yes, we’re still here... or at least trying to be. You’re wondering where we went, right? Well, let me inform you that the internet out here is a force to be reckoned with. At the moment, we are not hip to the high speed internet word in Italy, and Italians have NO clue when it comes to using Macs. So, the combination makes for absent blogging.

Here is the culprit. We purchased a chiave (key) through Vodafone that promised us “The Best Internet Service Ever!” The fine print is, only if you use a PC, and the expression on the Vodafone salespersons face when we informed him that we use a Mac was as if his smile slammed on the brakes. He informed us (hesitantly) that this would be the best way for us to get internet, and being the ever so over-consuming American’s that we are, we forked over a nice chunk of change for this chiave for the hope of getting on the internet. We learned the hard way that the Italians might be ahead in the cell phone industry, but they are by far behind in internet. (The fact that this is uploading is a miracle, I’m quite used to the “disconnected” sign.) You live, you learn. As soon as we are settled in with our eventual set-up of DSL, we will have TONS of pictures to share!

In other news, too many trips to Milan and spending 80 euros to stand for four hours, had left us battered apartment hunters and travelers. Coming from New York City we thought we had seen the worst of the worst with Brokers but, let me inform you that yes, there is actually a city that is worse to rent in than New York—Milan. More to come on this… I promise! But right now, we’re continuing life in Fano but anxiously awaiting what is in store for us outside of it.

The good news is, with the spare time I am becoming quite the cook. Well, if deeming yourself worthy of not giving anyone food poisoning means you’re good. Daily trips to the mercato and dragging Giancarlo to see Sex In The City, dubbed in Italian (only so he can translate all the Italian humor for me) and making some new American friends in Fano have been the highlights of the past week. Next week we are off to Rome (first timer here) to do some paperwork but I’m sure we can sneak a day in for some sightseeing.

More blogging to come! (If I don’t get kicked off )

Sorry to hear about your Internet situation.

I have a Mac and use TIM's Alice. I have the high speed internet and it's fantastic.

An Italian friend of mine has that pin/key that you put into your computer and he also uses a Mac.

Once you move to Milan it should be easy to get back online. Telecom Italia had me up and running within 10 business of my calling to order it.

Good luck.

I've been here six years and in my opinion the internet has improved compared to six years ago. It's not like in the States, plus finding a wi-fi connection is a bit more difficult. Have you been to a public office yet where you wonder if they've ever heard of a computer and scanner?
